Can you put sunscreen on your new tattoo?

Everyone knows that the sun, however lovely, can be very harmful to your tattoo. Whether it's a new tattoo or an old one, it doesn't matter. You need to be careful with the combination of sun and your tattoo.

Even though this isn't really news and most people have known this for a long time, there is still much uncertainty and confusion about the effects of applying sunscreen to a new tattoo. Applying sunscreen to your new tattoo can cause significant problems during the healing process of your tattoo.

Sunscreen can be very harmful to your new tattoo because almost all sunscreens contain ingredients that are not good to use on open skin, like your new tattoo. This can cause your tattoo to become inflamed, swell, or even develop blisters.

Not only that, most sunscreens are often thicker and sticky. That can seal off your tattoo and also attract dirt. If you apply it to your fresh tattoo, you run the risk of your tattoo becoming infected.

As long as your tattoo has not yet healed, it is better not to apply sunscreen to your tattoo.

During the healing process, only apply a cream or ointment to your tattoo that helps it heal, such as an after-tattoo care cream.

For the first two to three weeks, it is advisable to keep your tattoo out of the sun as much as possible. Exposing your new tattoo to the sun is asking for trouble. Your skin is very thin and sensitive to the sun after healing.
