After how long you can go in the sun or under a tanning bed with your new tattoo varies from person to person. You can only go in the sun with your new tattoo once the top layer of skin is completely healed. That is when all skin cells and scabs have disappeared and your tattoo feels completely smooth. When that is exactly varies from person to person. Some people get it after two weeks, others after four weeks.
You cannot go out in the sun with your new tattoo until your tattoo has healed. Until then, stay out of the sun with your new tattoo as much as possible. If you just got your tattoo, your tattoo is an open wound that you need to protect not only from dirt but also from the sun. Your skin is extremely sensitive to UV light and can burn very easily. This can cause blisters, bumps or even cracks in your tattoo. This is not only very painful, but also slows down the healing process of your tattoo.
You cannot take your tattoo into the sun until it is healed. Even then you have to be very careful, because your skin is still very delicate. It will take several months before you can really expose your tattoo to the strong sun or a tanning bed.
For the first few weeks after getting your tattoo, it is wise to stay out of the sun as much as possible. Do not go under the tanning bed with your new tattoo either. Can't avoid walking or sitting in the sun? Then cover your tattoo with your clothes or a towel.
☀️TIP: If you just got a tattoo, you can also protect it the first few days with a sun protection tattoo foil.
Once your tattoo is healed, you can apply sunscreen to it. If you apply too soon, your tattoo can become quite irritated by the ingredients in the sunscreen. These are usually not suitable for putting on an open wound.
Do you go out in the sun with your tattoo or have tattoos in visible places? Then protect them well against fading. It won't be so noticeable at first, but if you expose your tattoos to daylight or bright sunlight, they are guaranteed to fade. That's why we recommend that you always protect your tattoos from UV rays. Even if the sun is not shining, there is still a lot of UV radiation in the air.
