In the Netherlands, strict rules apply to tattoo studios. Approximately one thousand tattoo studios are licensed, meaning they must comply with stringent hygiene requirements. After all, a tattoo studio is not a public toilet. Cleanliness and extensive hygiene should be the highest priority. This should be evident upon entry. If you are greeted by a horde of hungry insects upon arrival, you should quickly make your escape. The workspaces must be clean and well-ventilated. Only equipment necessary for tattooing may be present in the tattooing area. Feel free to ask your tattoo artist about the area where you will be tattooed. Should a tattoo artist only use disposable materials?

Wipes, color caps, and disposable gloves must be discarded immediately after use. This also applies to disposable needles. Do not worry if your tattoo artist works with reusable needles. These are thoroughly sterilized using professional and specially developed equipment such as ultrasonic cleaners, autoclaves, or dry heat sterilizers. Simply ask your tattoo artist what materials they use. Again, reputable and professional tattoo artists and studios will gladly answer all your questions.

What about smoking in the tattoo studio?

Smoking is absolutely forbidden in the treatment room, and often not allowed in the tattoo shop at all.

Can you bring your dog?

Generally, your dog will not be allowed into the tattoo shop and certainly not into the treatment room. Dogs pose too great an infection risk.
